Paint Shop Pro 7 Tutorial: Brushes [use and installation]

This tutorial shows you how to use brushes in PSP7. This one gave me quite a lot of trouble too when I was learning it. There's always these nice Photoshop tutorials out there, and there's some PSP ones on using brushes, but I never got them when I read them. Hopefully, this'll help you understand better.

Whoa, back up? Okay, first of all, what are brushes? Well, you know how in PSP you can randomly draw with the airbrush? Brushes are like that, with certain kinds of designs that are premade. They're pretty popular on some sites I've seen. You'd really have to download one to know better, so go to a search engine and find "Free PSP Brushes" and see for yourself.

Anyway, to use it. So you've downloaded a zip file or something - you have to extract (taking the content in the zip file and putting it in a certain folder. In this case, the content should be a .JBR or .ABR file - be careful though, not all Photoshop Brushes work in Paint Shop Pro) into C:\Program Files\Jasc Software Inc\Paint Shop Pro 7\Brushes\. You can actually just copy and paste that URL into your address bar, and it should go there.

Okay, pasted your brush files into that folder? Now, open up PSP. Open up a new image or another image that you want to try the brushes on. Now, click on your airbrush tool.

Got it? Now remember how I told you to always have to Tool Options Palette open? Look at it, and go to the Brush Types button near the top right of it - it's on the Tool Options Palette after you check airbrush and looks like this:

Click on that, and see how you probably have normal checked right now? Check custom, and the Custom Brush window will pop up. All you need to worry about is the image dropdown window in the there - click on the image and you can select the new custom brush you want to use. Press OK, and now when you draw on the image with the airbrush tool, it will draw in the form of your brush.

You can adjust the brush colors in your colors palette. That's it, go on and download brushes now.
