PHP Tutorial: Installation [making PHP work on your computer]If you want to work with PHP at all and have it show, you have to either install it on your computer or upload it to a server that has PHP installed. When I first used PHP I was uploading all of the files to test them for ages, because I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work on my computer. When I did realize I had to install it, I found it really complicated and confusing and kept messing the installation up. xD
What you need to get PHP to work on your computer is 1. To install a web server like Apache and 2. to install PHP and 3. to configure them to work together. You can go about doing it that way, but I found a much, much easier way would be just to install XAMPP. I quote, "XAMPP is an easy to install Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP and Perl." It's an all in one package and you don't have to configure anything! Download XAMPP and run the installation. After you're done with that, make sure that Apache is running by going to your XAMPP Control Panel. Then type in the URL http://localhost in your browser window, and it should take you to a XAMPP page on your computer to confirm that you've successfully installed it. You can now get PHP files to work by putting it in your xampp/htdocs/ folder wherever you installed XAMPP. So if I made a folder called neskaya in the htdocs folder and I put an index.php file in it, I could access it with working PHP by typing in http://localhost/neskaya/index.php into my browser window. Have fun working with PHP now!
