Flash Tutorial: Shape Tweening [Creating an Animation]

Creating an animation in Flash is called tweening. It's done through your layers / timeline window. In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a shape tween, which quite obviously changes the shape of an object. We will change the shape of a rectangle into a circle.

1. Let's use your Rectangle Tool to draw a small rectangle.

2. In your layers timeline, right click on the box under frame 10 and click Insert Keyframe (as in image). There should now be a black dot under frame 10 as well as frame 1. Your rectangle should also be present under frame 10.

Note: You can also insert a keyframe by pressing F6 instead of right clicking. Keyframes are the points from the start of your image change to the end of the change.

Note #2: A black dot signifies that the keyframe is not empty. A circle that is not filled in signifies an empty keyframe.

3. Make sure that the dot under frame 10 in the timeline, on Layer 1, is selected.

4. Delete the rectangle on frame 10. Do not delete the rectangle on frame 1.

5. Left click the rectangle tool and hold it - new tool options will pop up. Select the oval tool.

6. On frame 10, draw an oval in place of where the rectangle was. See Image 2.

7. Right lick on any frame between frame 1 and 10 and select Create Shape Tween. See Image 3.

8. An arrow should appear between the frames and your finished product should look like Image 4.
